Our heroic translators!
German
The subtitles and closed captions for the version of “The Volunteers” shown in Austria and Germany were created by a group of dedicated students in the translation seminar of Beate Steinhauser at the University of Innsbruck. From left to right: Jasmin Bissenberger, David Krennwallner, Stefanie Pörnbacher, Faustine Merigalet; bottom: Chiara Khayyam, Barbara Exenberger, Léa Diaz Vizoso.
Chinese
“The Volunteers” is now available with subtitles in both simplified and traditional Chinese characters. The original translation and simplified-character subtitling is thanks to our amazing teammate Wei Zeng, a doctoral student in translation studies in Alberta, Canada. The traditional Chinese character subtitles are thanks to our latest treasured team member Wei "Eric" Wu. Thanks to the dedication and the technological wizardry of a Chinese graduate student in the United States, the version of our film with simplified character subtitles is also available with an option in which our narrator’s original voice has been modified through AI-enhanced text-to-speech narration into spoken Mandarin.
Spanish
We are honored that the Spanish subtitles for both the 56-minute and 86-minute version of our film were created by Patricia Ogan Rivadavia, acclaimed Argentinian translator of Dylan Thomas and Gary Snyder, among many other poets.
An independent international production.
