Broadcast, streaming, DVD
The 56-minute version of “The Volunteers: Mountain Rescue Brings Us Home” is currently streaming on PBS Passport and is being broadcast on local PBS stations nationwide, distributed by the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA). High school educators: we have lesson plans for teaching this version of “The Volunteers” across a variety of subject areas—they are to you free of charge.
The 86-minute version of “The Volunteers” is available on Prime Video. As with our 56-minute version for PBS, the film streams with English subtitles over the spoken German. If you’d like English closed captions, just navigate to the the subtitle menu and select them. German closed captions are also available, but note that they appear over the English-language subtitles.
In Europe, native German speakers are encouraged to search on Prime Video for the title “Die Freiwilligen: Heimkommen mit der Bergrettung,” which will return two versions of the film: one with English subtitles over the spoken German (the version described above), and one with German subtitles over the spoken English. For the latter, select the version in which the poster is in German:
We also expect shortly to have versions of the 56-minute and 86-minute cuts available with Spanish subtitles, and we expect within two months to have a version of the 56-cut with subtitles—and spoken narration—in Mandarin.
We expect in time to be able to offer the 106-minute director’s cut of our film on DVD and Blu-ray. Please contact us for inquiries. In the meantime, the director’s cut can be seen at festival and educational screenings, and at select search and rescue organizations and cultural institutions. See “Arrange a Screening” under the Watch tab.
